The European head office features a bold showroom and a crisp work environment

The Japanese multinational Shimano is market leader in the development and production of high quality bicycle components, fishing tackle and rowing equipment. For the European head office at the High Tech Campus in Eindhoven, Fokkema & Partners made an interior design with the company’s mission statement in mind: ‘to promote health and happiness through the enjoyment of nature and the world around us’

While providing the physical space to experience Shimano’s products and services, the design generates mental space for employees to create dedicated campaigns for Shimano in Europe. Complementary to the new building (designed by RAU) the interior design has a technologically advanced look and feel. Vistas on nature provide the perfect backdrop for the crisp atmosphere invoked by the simplicity of the design.

In a workshop on the top floor, new products and techniques are developed which will eventually be on display for visitors in the business centre on the ground floor. Besides the interior design, Fokkema & Partners conducted the project management and developed the activity-based workplace concept.

The post-completion certification is in line with our general project approach: great design and sustainability start with the wellbeing of people. While not a part of our design brief, the verified quality of the space on air quality, acoustics, ergonomics, promoting healthy lifestyles and creating communities is always important to us, as it was for Shimano to embody its core values regarding healthy lifestyles in the office design.
